Privacy and information security data breaches are the fastest growing risks to ALL businesses and employers today. Over 50% of identity theft originates in the workplace as a result of lax privacy and information security practices. All enterprises—businesses; employers; governmental entities, schools, non-profits, and even individuals who conduct certain business transactions, are subject to one or more state and federal regulations governing identity theft, privacy and information security. Compliance with these identity theft, privacy and information security laws and regulationsrequires risk identification, documentation, and employee education and training on an ongoing basis.
Who must comply with the complexmosaic of privacy and information security laws? One of more of the laws apply to every organization, business, and even certain individuals, for example, landlords. Certain business sectors are subject to additional laws, and some industries, for example the payment card industry, are imposing strict privacy and security codes on their industry group. |
