CONSUMER (Residential) Do Not Call Laws

State and National Consumer Do Not Call (DNC) laws are one of many marketing and employment laws that have been enacted to assure an individual's right to privacy.

Violation of these DNC laws carry hefty penalties, and all businesses large and small must comply with both the National DNC law and  the laws of “Each State."  The FTC enforces the National DNC Law for interstate calls, and th FCC enforces the National DNC law for intrastate calls under separate congressional acts. If  your business makes telephone solicitation calls to another state, you must comply with both the National and the other State’s Laws.   If you only make calls within your state, you must comply with both the National and your State’s DNC regulations.

Wisconsin’s Proposed Business DNC Law

The Wisconsin Legislature is proposing a “Small BusinessDNC Law. Although this law may sound attractive to certain small business owners, the law will very likely do little to reduce  problematic calls, and it will become a burden to other small business owners who use the telephone to contact other small businesses.
