Red Flag 7

 

Imagine that you can’t get auto insurance because of your bad driving record or you can’t get health insurance because of a mistake in your medical records. What if you are an illegal alien and you need auto insurance to get to work to support your family and you need health insurance to protect your family?

 

All it would take is a name, birth date and social security number!  And as the imposter your intention may be to pay your insurance premiums in advance every year.

 

But let’s say that you, the imposter, starts getting moving traffic violations and let’s say you are diagnosed with medical problems.  Great.  You have insurance. 

But what about the victim, the real person who’s name and social security number you have been using.

 

We all have an insurance identity, and those people who may not be insurable would like to use someone’s identity that would allow to obtain low-cost insurance. 

 

If any of your insurance rates increase or you are cancelled, get an explanation from your insurance company.  This may be a clue that you have become a victim of identity theft.
